Phase 20
Welcome to Phase 20! A few guidelines for how I would like the kids to train to insure as close to an optimum learning curve as possible.
This program is designed in 2 week blocks to make sure the concepts begin to be habit forming.
For maximum results the player should work through the drills a minimum of 3x per week. Preferably on the days that they do not have practice or a game.
REMEMBER, it is always better to work a few minutes a day vs one long session a week.
Phase Guidelines
3-4-3 PRINCIPLE (where applicable)
3 minutes Strong foot/side, 3 minutes Weak foot, 3 minutes, the 10% or players choice.
If short on time keep the ratio 1-2-1.
50%-80% SUCCESS RATE–
Less than 50% decrease the difficulty (speed, complexity, etc.), above %80 increase the difficulty (add defender, increase the speed etc).
PERFECT CONSECUTIVE REPS
3 out of 5, 5 out of 7, 7 out of 10. Increase difficulty when above %80.
Chunks
Work on one PERFECT CHUNK per section. Try the movement in SLOW MO REPLAY.
TRIAL AND ERROR
BE WILLING TO MAKE MISTAKES!! No progress can be made without doing it wrong first!
HARD WORK and REPETITION
These are the most valuable tools in a players arsenal!! Lionel Messi, Michael Jordan, Cristiano Ronaldo all are famous for their work ethics.

Ball Striking
Ball Striking: Cow, Far Post, Laces
This drill is all about getting the hips turned and squared up to the far post. When you need to turn your hips while running at pace, the longer your stride, the harder it is to turn. Therefore, we need to take short quick steps as we approach the ball to get our plant foot turned to the back post before we strike it. Cow the defender and make a bent run as you approach the ball. Take short quick steps before your long PROSTEP to get the plant foot twisted to the far Post. Drive the ball across the face of goal with the laces.

Ball Protection
Ball Protection: Bob, Hook, Chop, Cruyff Kata
Now, we take all our change of direction turns and put them together. Make sure that every turn is a Big Fake. Make the defender get on their heels and Flinch with every fake. In the middle, make sure that you’re squaring your hips to the Target. Play a firm ball with the inside of the foot receiving it with the foot on the side you’re going to be working with next. The turn sequence is: 2 Bob turns, 2 Hook turns, 2 Chop turns, 2 Cruyff.

Offensive Recognition
Offensive Recognition: Uncommitted Defender Surfboard, All Moves
Here we have a Defender who is a playing good defense with a good body position. They wait patiently with one foot forward and with one foot back, prepared to run in one direction. In this situation, you want to use a move that will cause the defender to become unbalanced. Fake IN THE DIRECTION THAT THEY ARE FACING and attack THEIR BACK.

Body Position and Receiving
Body Position and Receiving: Turn to Laces, Far Post
Use any turn to the outside protecting the ball with your inside leg and arm. Take a touch with the outside leg and drive the ball with the laces to the far post. Make sure that your plant foot is pointed just inside the far post. Drive through the center of the ball with the laces.

Aerial Receiving
Aerial Receiving: Chest to Sombrero
Often, when receiving the ball out of the air, you’re closed down quickly by a Defender. Possessing a accomplished touch can allow you to redirect the ball before it strikes the ground, thus avoiding the defender. Receive the ball out of the air with the chest. Keep your elbows up and your back arched. Before the ball strikes the ground, lob the ball over the approaching defender and run around on the other side to receive it.
