Phase 12
Welcome to Phase 12! A few guidelines for how I would like the kids to train to insure as close to an optimum learning curve as possible.
This program is designed in 2 week blocks to make sure the concepts begin to be habit forming.
For maximum results the player should work through the drills a minimum of 3x per week. Preferably on the days that they do not have practice or a game.
REMEMBER, it is always better to work a few minutes a day vs one long session a week.
Phase Guidelines
3-4-3 PRINCIPLE (where applicable)
3 minutes Strong foot/side, 3 minutes Weak foot, 3 minutes, the 10% or players choice.
If short on time keep the ratio 1-2-1.
50%-80% SUCCESS RATE–
Less than 50% decrease the difficulty (speed, complexity, etc.), above %80 increase the difficulty (add defender, increase the speed etc).
PERFECT CONSECUTIVE REPS
3 out of 5, 5 out of 7, 7 out of 10. Increase difficulty when above %80.
Chunks
Work on one PERFECT CHUNK per section. Try the movement in SLOW MO REPLAY.
TRIAL AND ERROR
BE WILLING TO MAKE MISTAKES!! No progress can be made without doing it wrong first!
HARD WORK and REPETITION
These are the most valuable tools in a players arsenal!! Lionel Messi, Michael Jordan, Cristiano Ronaldo all are famous for their work ethics.
Always end with a GAME and a HIGH NOTE!

Ball Striking
Ball Striking: Laces Natural Run-Up
Take three to four normal steps straight back away from the Target and the ball. Then take three to four steps at an angle and face the ball. Take natural steps and approach the ball at a 45-degree angle. Take a long quick Prostep planting the foot pointed at the Target and driving through the ball with the laces. Make sure to hold the locked ankle all the way through the follow-through.

Offensive Recognition
Offensive Recognition: Committed Defender Behind, Stop/Fake and Go
When a defender is running alongside an attacker and their HIPS are EVEN with you, then you need to move them BEHIND you or in FRONT. To do this you need to FAKE STOP and then quickly accelerate away or actually stop briefly and quickly drive away. The Defender will either slow down or stop completely.
Coaching Points

-
FAKE a stop and continue in the same direction
-
QUICK STOP and then drive away
Body Position and Receiving
Body Position and Receiving: Overlap
Play a square ball, 90 degree pass, to your teammate and run behind him into the open space on the other side. The teammate should attack the center of the field with their first touch before playing the ball back to the overlapping player.
Coaching Points
-
Square pass
-
Teammate attacks the Center to create space and draw the defender
-
First attacker overlaps behind the team-mate into the space
-
Return pass behind defender
Aerial Receiving
Aerial Receiving: Kneeling Header
Arch your back while keeping your elbows up. Make a Target with your hands, head high. Snap at the waist and drive your head through your hands and the ball. Snap at the waist with enough power that your body falls forward. Catch yourself with your hands on the ground.
If you have any concerns about heading being dangerous at a younger age, use any soft ball, or even a balloon. But please make sure the technique is taught correctly. The better the technique the less likely there is of injury as they get older.
Coaching Points
-
Elbows up
-
Target hands
-
Arch the back, exaggerate!
-
Snap the head through the hands driving the elbows back as you attack the ball
